Shooting BottleRock Napa 2014

I am lucky to have enough photographic chops to join the BottleRock 2014 festival photography team. This is a fairly new field to me - concert photography - but for the most part, it's the same as many events where you have to be on the lookout at all times for great shots. It's just a bit more structured, a bit more chaotic, a bit longer and a bit dirtier. "A bit" is an understatement.

How to prepare for such an event is beyond me. I know what I would do if I were a concert goer who planned on eating & drinking her way through three days. Been there, done that. I have never shot the entire experience. (Actually, now that I write that, that would be a very cool way to document the experience - Instagram videos, Vine videos, photographs from a true concert goer. I'm up for that job, BottleRock organizers!) Because I haven't done anything like this before, I'm going to over-prepare. As they say, you can never over-prepare or over-dress. Or at least I say that.

I think my skills will be put to good use - my business has been created to provide marketing & communications professionals with imagery they can use to promote their brand, business or product. This opportunity with BottleRock gives me a chance to practice what I preach. And there's LL Cool J for a bonus round.

Now, what am I bringing? I'm currently the definition of over-preparedness:

This is not everything. There are also jackets, extra shirts, extra socks, cell phone chargers, more bobby pins than you can imagine....and more. I'm sure there will be more.

My backup this shoot is my FujiFilm X-M1 (not pictured...I needed to use something to take this photo!) which I figured was better than anything else I had. Wish list item #3823716: Mark III. I digress.

So we've got 3 pairs of shoes (blisters can take a man down), sunscreen, earplugs, baggies, socks, water bottles, bag of toiletries (Advil! Bandaids!), pens, chapstick, hair ties/clips/pins, laptop, laptop charger, cell phone chargers, cell phones...and to the good stuff: Canon 5D Mark II, rented Canon 70-200mmL, 24-105mmL, 50mm, 40mm, 85mm, a sling strap, a cushy strap, battery charger, extra battery, tape, EF lens mount for X-M1, CF cards (four 8GB, one 16GB, two 32GB), card reader, Speedlite flash, flash soft box, AA batteries, backpack, belt pack (nice way of saying fanny pack. I know.)

Wish me luck.
